20 First Lines meme

I...ahemm..borrowed this from romankate. Have seen it elsewhere, but I like that she said drabbles count. So here are 20 first lines from various and sundry fic.  I'll list in order of fic length, so that means the first two are from my only "full stories" that I've posted. Then I'll list first lines from my longest short fics, then drabbles (300, 200, 100). Thinking I follow up later in the week with last lines. Anyway, I'll put below the cut...But I had to include a pretty picture for y'all



1. Hutch was feeling pretty good.

2. Illya Kuryakin was smiling as he strode through the hallways of UNCLE's New York headquarters, and those who didn't know him better might almost have said there was a bit of a spring in his step.

3. This had to be the best day ever.

4. “You wanna talk about it, or you just wanna drink some more?” Starsky asked, clearly amenable to either response.

5. I nestled myself a little further into the cocoon of my partner's neck and arms and he began trailing his fingers, in a lazy fashion, over my back.

6. I blame the meds.

7. Joe hadn’t meant to get so carried away with his vehement denial of wanting to help the detectives.

8. It saddeded him to think that she never really knew him.

9. “Look,” Hutch sighed "I can see you’re not gonna let this go, so I’m going to try to come up with an answer that will satisfy you…just give me a minute." 

10. Okay.

11. God.

12. In the weeks following the explosion, Starsky learned how to function without his hearing.

13. “If you expect me to fulfill your heart's-or should I say stomach's desire, you could at least tell me what you want.”

14. Wow.

15. He wrestled demons in a fitful sleep, on their stakeout.

16. He was happy for Hutch's success in his burgeoning singing career.

17. He found Huggy waiting in a dark booth in the corner, wearing a countenance he hadn’t seen in a long while.

18. “You okay, buddy?”

19. “You sure this is the right place?” Starsky queried 

20. We had moved to the corner booth, where it was more private, and we could decompress a little.


Hmmm. that was kinda interesting. I would've thought I used more dialog. Agree with another poster who said they were making a resolution to use fewer one word sentences.

Yeah, my 'full length' stories are crossovers between S&H and MUNCLE, which was fun to do. I got to introduce them, and of course they all became friends. And they worked a couple of cases together.

It's fun playing here. I like it.

I can never begin a story with just one word sentence :o)

I tend to write lots of short sentences. Its easier than figuring out the correct grammer and puntuation for more lengthy ones. 'Cause I'm a little lazy like that.
